Composite Cylinders

Viking Cylinders tanks are a safer, lighter alternative to steel and aluminum propane tanks. Constructed using a mixture of fibers and plastic resin instead of metal, the tanks are designed with a three-layer construction:

  • A completely seamless, blow-molded liner
  • A fiberglass-wrapped plastic casing
  • A durable outer case

No special valve adapters are needed to use or fill composite cylinders. All cylinders are manufactured in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) special permits, and composite propane gas cylinders include the same approved valves, pressure-relief devices, and overfill-prevention devices as traditional steel and aluminum propane tanks.

Why choose a Viking composite cylinder?

Translucent - Viking Cylinders tanks are translucent, so you’ll always be able to see the level of gas remaining. This helps employees plan better when working – no more running out unexpectedly and having to walk back to get a replacement propane tank.

Lightweight - Viking Cylinders tanks weigh more than 50 percent less than traditional steel propane tanks. Coming in at just over 48 pounds when full, the cylinders are the lightest FLT cylinders available. Combine the light weight with the ergonomic handle design, and it’s a simple task for absolutely anyone to lift them.

Safer than metal - Unlike steel and aluminum tanks, Viking cylinders will not BLEVE in a fire. BLEVE is the technical abbreviation for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. In layman’s terms this means Viking cylinders will not explode in a fire. Instead, the resin will burn off and the plastic liner and casing will melt. The LPG will then “breathe” through the cylinder wall and burn in a controlled manner.

Noncorrosive - Viking Cylinders tanks are noncorrosive, so they can stand up to the elements without rusting or breaking down. They’re also incredibly durable, so they can stand up to frequent use, even in tough environments.

Viking Cylinders propane tanks must be periodically re-certified. Viking Cylinders tanks are the only composite LPG cylinder that can be re-certified by visual inspection (pressure test is not required). Re-certification must be done by an authorized facility once every five years.
